Sota Smoke BBQ started in 2017 as a group of long-time friends decided to a have backyard rib competition among the group. For this contest, we had three identical Masterbuilt electric smokers and three friends who made 3 racks each for tasting. Jazzy Joe’s ribs brought home the win with its unique raspberry vinaigrette BBQ sauce, but that day something very special was born.

 

In spring of 2018 we decided to combine our efforts and enter our first BBQ contest. Under the team name, “The Bastie Boys”, we entered a BBQ cookoff at a local brewery that consistent of 14 teams and was judged by about 150 patrons of the brewery. To our surprise, The Bastie Boys took first place. 

 

In 2019 we entered our first backyard contest under our new team name “Sota Smoke BBQ”. The Smokey's Rib & Blues Fest had 20 teams competing in a Rib Cookoff contest.  Sota Smoke BBQ took home 5th place being judged by official KCBS judge scoring. 2019 came to a close with a 7th place finish at an even larger rib contest with 24 backyard teams.

 

We cannot wait to get out there and keep learning and creating wonderful memories and even more wonderful barbecue.
